Welcome to the website of The START Children’s Center of Rensselaer County. This site is designed to provide information to the community regarding all the programs and services the Center has to offer.

The START Children’s Center of Rensselaer County, as mentioned in the mission statement, provides services that reduce the trauma that children endure due to being a victim of abuse or a witness to violence. The Center is designed in a child-friendly manner that caters specifically to their needs. A focus is also placed on supporting the non-offending members of the victim’s family.

The START Children’s Center is also involved in the community. Community involvement is accomplished through school presentations for staff, agency presentations, fundraising efforts, participation with different community committees and the hosting of bi-weekly START Meetings. Additionally, the Center has many student intern and volunteer opportunities.

Rensselaer County has established a Child Fatality Review Team to better understand how and why our children die and to take action to prevent other child deaths. The investigation of the cause of child fatalities/ near fatalities is a responsibility of paramount importance.

The mission of the Rensselaer County Child Fatality Review team is to improve the coordination of child death / near death investigations and reduce the incidence of preventable deaths to children in Rensselaer County.
